Knoedler Gallery is back in the news as another former client has filed a lawsuit against the once prestigious gallery. Knoedler, which was one of the oldest galleries in the country, has been closed for a year and a half since the first suit was filed by a nonprofit created by artist Robert Motherwell. The foundation accused the gallery of selling forged paintings by Motherwell. Lawsuits piled up over the last year and a half as former clients claim to have been duped into buying forged artwork. This most recent suit is in regard to a purchase made by Nicholas F. Taubman, the former ambassador to Romania, who purchased a fake painting by Clyfford Still for $4.3 million in 2005.
