When I first read this story I thought … WOW, someone hit it big! Then I started to do a little research and discovered that the value might be a little bit over the top. Regardless of what it is really worth, it is still a nice story.
Robert Warren was looking through a closet in the Hoyt Sherman Place art gallery and found an old dusty, damaged, painting. Turns out, it was a long-forgotten work by the 16th-century Dutch artist Otto van Veen (1556-1629) that was donated to the Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation in 1952 and has never been displayed.
The article claims the work could be worth millions ($4M plus); however, I have been unable to find a work that has sold at auction for more than $160K.
