London printmaker Sam Hodge’s latest series is inspired by a growing phobia around the world… breaking your cell phone screen (Nomophobia has become one of the biggest phobias in the world – being without your cellphone). By using a transparent dry point plastic she traces the shattered glass with a needle-like tool, applies ink to the finished engraving, presses onto paper and voila, a new artwork is created. Not going to lie, mine looked very similar to the “Oscar” for almost the entire month of June until I had it replaced…. Anyway, Hodge plans to create a limited-edition book of several impressions with a glow-in-the-dark cover to imitate the “constant glowing presence of the smartphone screen in everyday life.” Check out some of her pieces as well as the full article here.
