Christie’s Sales Rise to $4.6 Billion Led by New Buyers – both main salerooms reported record results for the first 6 months of the year. Christie’s had a total of £2.7B ($4.6B) … of that total, £799.9M ($1.36B) came from Postwar and Contemporary art. What is even more interesting is that Barnett Newman’s Black Fire 1 and Francis Bacon’s Three Studies for a Portrait of John Edwards accounted for $164M — more than 10% of their Postwar & Contemporary total.
Sotheby’s trailed behind with a measly (HA! HA!) total of $3.12B!
