Lots 26 – 42 saw some ups and downs. A de Kooning hit the upper end of its estimate at £2.5M, while a little Lucien Freud blew past its estimate of £120K-£180K to sell for £420K. on the flip side an Auerbach and Damien Hirst (est. £650-£850K) failed to hit their reserves — the Hirst was from a series of works he did in 2008 and they were selling in the $1.5 – $2.5M range back then. Castellani’s Superficie Bianca N 34 did well at £1.6M (est. £400-£600K), but then two Palermo’s and a Marden went unsold.
Lots 43 – 53. This group started off with a Lucio Fontana cut red canvas that brought £1.02M (est. £550-£850M) and a Christopher Wool at £1.4M (est £700-£1M) while another by the artist failed to sell. Warhol’s Double Lenin brought £600K (low end of the estimate) while his Ladies & Gentlemen (3 images) made £920K (est. £900-£1.2M) and his Ladies & Gentlemen (2 images) made £560 (selling below its £600-£800K estimate).
