New investigative analysis about the October 16th Rotterdam’s Kunsthal museum theft may become a worst case scenario for the seven stolen works, valued at more than $133m. The paintings taken in the burglary, including Picasso’s Tete d’Arlequin, Monet’s Waterloo Bridge and Lucian Freud’s Woman with Eyes Closed, may have been burned shortly after the overnight theft. Ash remains found in a haul post-operation are being tested to be sure. One theory about this event is that the thieves may have realized they would not be able to sell the works and decided to set fire to the paintings to destroy the evidence entirely. Law enforcement’s searched the home of Olga Dogaru, the suspect’s mother, and found an empty suitcase which possibly served to collection the stolen works, connecting her to the act. (Heraldsun.com)
