Jean-Antoine Watteau “La Surprise”

News broke that the J. Paul Getty Museum has acquired a collection of drawings by artists such as Michelangelo, Edgar Degas, and Peter Paul Rubens and a painting by Watteau from a private U.K. collection.  The Watteau was purchased in a 2008 auction for £12.4 million ($24 million), while the Michelangelo sold for $7.7 million in a 2001 sale.

One article places the value of this deal at about $100 million.  I guess having an endowment of $6.5 billion helps!
