This fall, Christie’s will be offering Francis Bacon’s Study of Red Pope 1962, 2nd Version 1971 which is expected to bring £60m ($81M). The painting was exhibited in Paris shortly after it was painted and has been in the same private collection since 1973. Now that is what we would call a fresh-to-the-market work.
