Once again it is time for the British people to dig deep and come up with the funds to save a historically important work of art. The Tyrwhitt-Drake family is putting the Armada portrait of Elizabeth I up for sale. In order for the painting to stay in the UK, the country needs to raise £10m in the next two months. The Art Fund has already pledged £1m and the Royal Museums Greenwich offered £400K. The balance, £8.6m, will need to come from public donations.
