Extra Strength: There is a surface quality to much of the work done in relationship to the material culture of the contemporary world. Pills appear at all the art fairs as candy and as over-sized exemplars of the excess of our culture. Rarely do they appear as themselves…as palliatives to the fundamental issues that ail humanity. Realism allows the subject to be addressed without the irony that now plagues so much of art making. And these things…these pills…become beautiful and good again.
