BIOGRAPHY - William Petty (Born 1945)
William Petty is a painter mainly specializing in sporting scenes, particularly polo, rugby, and horseracing. Petty was born in Argentina in 1945 to an Irish father and a half-Welsh, half-Argentine mother. The family lived on a ranch in the country's rural north, the equine-oriented culture of which likely influenced the subjects of Petty’s future work. We studied architecture in Buenos Aires for five years before traveling to Europe to study painting and sculpture.
Since the 1970s, Petty has exhibited his work in Britain, the United States, and continental Europe. His paintings are featured in several notable private collections, including the personal collections of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and King Felipe VI of Spain.
