Vilma Bautista, a foreign service officer and later personal secretary for the ex-president of the Philippines wife, Imelda Marco, has been indited on charges of conspiracy, tax fraud and offering a false instrument for filing for attempting to illegally sell artwork. The former presidential family looted between $5 billion and $10 billion from the country’s treasury. One of the works “stolen” and sold by Bautista is Monet’s “Japanese Footbridge Over the Water-Lily Pond at Giverny” for $32 million.
