After a brief exchanging of words with the current owner, Staffan Ahrenberg bought Cahiers d’Art, the Paris art gallery and publisher. Now, the gallery is reissuing the most prominent catalogue raisonné of Picasso’s paintings and drawings. Comprised of 33 volumes and more than 16,000 images, a four-decade collaboration between the artist and late Cahiers d’Art owner, Mr. Zervos. The set of catalogue raisonnés can be pre-ordered for $15,000, until the sets are released in November, selling for $20,000. While the price of the set may seem high, Mr. Ahrenberg argues that “You can’t buy anything original by Picasso for less than $500,000, or maybe a couple hundred thousand dollars, that’s any good.” Also, the price is seen as a bargain with vintage sets selling for around $60,000 at auction and going for close to $200,000 in pristine condition.
