#ArtTheftThursday – San Francisco cops seek word on stolen ‘Our Silences’ sculptures

October 8, 2015

Three sculptures by Mexican artist José Rivelino Moreno Valle went missing last month during the “Our Silence” exhibit in San Francisco.  The figurine sculptures, made from solid bronze, measure about 8 x 12 inches and were part of a series including larger iron figures with plates covering their mouths, an innuendo for censorship.  According to SFGate, Valle’s mission with this series was to empower freedom of expression.  San Francisco police now fear that the thieves may try to peddle the works to collectors or possibly melt them down for scrap.
