Every so often you hear contemporary art being compared/referred to as “garbage” and in this case of Jim Osman’s sculpture “Corbu Bench” that is exactly what it became.
The work, a wood, tile and AstroTurf bench (image below) was on view in Madison, Connecticut at the 15th annual Sculpture Mile contemporary art show. Believing the bench was left behind by skateboarders, a maintenance worker was instructed to break down the piece and trash it. Before knowing the work, valued at $10,000, was part of the exhibition, it was torn apart by a hammer and thrown into a dumpster. FULL ARTICLE
