The LA Times recently reported on Christie’s world breaking record for “highest total ever for an auction company.” In 2013 Christie’s brought in a total of $7.1 billion worth of art, jewelry and wine, a 16% increase from the previous year. With offices in 32 countries, their expansion into Asia has driven up their market 32% along with a 30% increase of new buyers. Christie’s also hold the world record for most expensive work of art sold at auction this year when, Francis bacon’s “Three Studies of Lucian Freud” was bought by billionaire, Elaine Wynn for $142 million in November.
