Shocking … More Than Half Are No Good!

Étienne Terrus

I am blown away by this one.  According to recent reports, more than half of the paintings in the Terrus Museum, a state-owned French museum in Elne, are fake. Now, maybe I could understand if one or two forgeries slipped through, but 82 of the 140?  How is that possible?

The museum was set up to showcase the work of Étienne Terrus (1857-1922) — who was born and spent most of his life, in Elne.  What is even more amazing is that the works were purchased over many years with municipal funds, to the tune of £140,000, and through donations.

The police have confiscated all of the phony works and are now beginning an investigation to uncover the forgers and dealers involved.  This should be very interesting.
