National Gallery acquires 28 artworks from Corcoran

May 31, 2016

In its latest round of acquisitions, the National Gallery of Art (NGA) has added 28 works of art from the now defunct Corcoran.  In 2014 a judge approved a deal that gave the NGA custody of the Corcoran’s 17,000 piece collection and the right of first refusal for the works.  Since then, the NGA has purchased 8,329 pieces.  Those they do not take will be distributed to other institutions. This most recent round included works by Cecilia Beaux and Anne Truitt.  For more of Peggy McGlone’s report in The Washington Post, click HERE.
