Model (Pair): One of my favorite series of paintings is Roy Lichtenstein’s Brushstroke series. I love it because it is a very clear example of the dialogue between works and between artistic works, movements or eras that lend true meaning to the visual language of art. I found his commentary insightful and funny as it relates to Abstract Expressionism. I wanted to enter that dialogue. And as much as I once fell in line with the impulse supporting Lichtenstein’s work, I am finding that my affinities for Abstract Expressionism are becoming stronger. I am finding that I want paintings to be paintings. I want paint to be paint despite still enjoying the act of making the paint disappear through technical proficiency, becoming a Thing. – A.
