Painting of the Day (SOLD archives): Henry John Boddington’s “Stopping at the Inn”

January 20, 2016

Source: Stopping at the Inn – The British artist Edward Williams had 6 sons, all of whom were artists.  In order to distinguish themselves from other family members, a few changed their last names … Henry John Williams was one of them.  In 1832 he married Clarissa Boddington and adopted her last name — after that point he became known as Henry John Boddington.  During his lifetime he exhibited extensively at the Royal Academy (the only artist in his family to be elected a member) and Royal Society of British Artists. Today, Henry John is still considered one of the finest members of the family. The painting featured here was sold by the gallery many years ago, but illustrate his immense talent.
