Controversial Art Show in Texas Turns Deadly

Art shows are a place of freedom, a place to express yourself; more so, they are supposed to be a safe place to express your ideas… Unfortunately, that is not always the case.  Approximately 200 people were in attendance at the Muhammad Art Exhibit at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, TX this past Sunday when gunfire broke out. The controversial event featured a contest for cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad. The contest had nearly concluded when the violence ensued… two men, Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi who are loosely linked to ISIS, pulled up to the entrance and were met by an officer and a security guard around 7 PM. The two men immediately exited their car and opened fire but thanks to a very responsive SWAT team, the threat was neutralized before the incident escalated. No art show attendees were harmed while the security guard was struck in the ankle… Both suspects were killed in the shootout. Nevertheless, it is a terrifying to know that an art show was the target of a terrorist attack. Read the full article HERE.
