Christie’s Sells $75 Million of Artworks as Frieze Begins

October 16, 2014

Christie’s Sells $75 Million of Artworks as Frieze Begins – the action has begun.  It is Frieze week in London and an auction featuring the Essl Collection fell within the estimate range (£$40 – £56.8M) … but only with the buyer’s commissions added in.  Top lot was a Gerhard Richter titled Wolken (it was a study of clouds) that made £6.2M  while the biggest failure was also a Richter – Netz (est. up to £10M) – that went unsold during the auction (it found a buyer after the sale at £5.5M).  In the end, the total was £46.9M ($75.3M) with 40 of the 44 works selling.
