In 1968, Rembrandt specialist Horst Gerson and the Rembrandt Research Project dismissed this 1636 self portrait of Rembrandt at the age of 29 as a fake or copy. Now, almost half a century later with the help of new tests like x-ray, infra-red and paint analysis, Rembrandt specialists have declared the work to be authentic. The work now hangs in the former home of Sir Francis Drake and has been appraised at $50 million.
