Art on tour: how renting out Turner turned around Bury’s fortunes

May 2, 2014

Art on tour: how renting out Turner turned around Bury’s fortunes – back in 2005 the Bury Art Museum sold an L.S. Lowry painting to cover a budget shortfall and was removed from the Museums Association ; Tony Trehy (the museum’s manager) was now looking for a way to earn a way out of financial trouble … and he found it.  Create an exhibition of important works from the Bury’s collection and rent out.  The idea worked and between 2012 and 2013 the “rent-able” exhibit was seen by more than 3 million people in 6 Chinese cities.
