Ribner on a Repainting by Millet. Here is an interesting article in the recently published Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide’s online journal discussing Millet’s Captivity of the Jews in Babylon. At the Salon of 1848 Millet exhibited two works … The Winnower and Captivity of the Jews in Babylon, the latter of which was poorly received and was later painted over with his Young Shepherdess (c.1870-73). An x-ray image of the painting is included which reveals the “lost” painting.
