‘Degenerate Art: The Attack on Modern Art in Nazi Germany, 1937’ – Neue Galerie

March 26, 2014

‘Degenerate Art: The Attack on Modern Art in Nazi Germany, 1937’ — a nice review of the Neue Galerie’s current exhibition which runs through June 30.  Included are about 80 works (paintings, drawing, books, posters, etc.) by Klee, Kokoschka, Matare, Beckmann and many others.

In all, the Nazis “confiscated” over 20,000 works they labeled ‘depraved’ or ‘Jewish’ and among the items on display is an original ledger which inventories and notes the fate of each work listed (“V” for sold, “T” for traded and “X” for destroyed).
