Richter Painting Leads Phillips’s $17 Million London Sale – rthe contemporary auction action has started in London. On Monday Phillips started the show and some of the results were pretty good. A Lucien Smith painting brought £195K ($319K -during his first solo show in Los Angeles, back in 2012, these works were priced between $3,000-$12,000). On the flip side, a Damien Hirst found a buyer at £579k (it was last offered in 2011 with an estimate of $1.2-$1.8M and was bought in); while a Dan Colen (another recently hot artist) did not sell.
Of the 33 works in the sale, 8 failed to find buyers.
