NY Artist Sues Over Paintings Lost At Empire State Building

February 1, 2014

NY Artist Sues Over Paintings Lost At Empire State Building – Here is an interesting case involving a commission artist Kysa Johnson received from the owners of the Empire State Building in 1999.  The abstract works were installed in 2000 and went missing in 2012.  When Ms. Johnson questioned the current owner they had no idea what happened to them and believe they were destroyed.  Her suit claims that under the commissioning contract she retained ownership of the works.

It is really hard for me to believe that with all the hype the art market has received in recent years that anyone would destroy such ‘visible’ works of art.  The outcome of this case will be very interesting.
