Juan Gris Boosts Christie’s $289 Million Sale

Picasso’s Concubine Boosts Christie’s $289 Million Sale – The auction action started last night and the results were good.  Overall pre-sale estimate range was £137.1-£199.5M and the sale garnered £177M ($289M) … these results included works from the Impressionist & Modern Evening Auction, along with The Art of the Surreal Evening Auction.

 

Top selling work was Juan Gris’ Nature morte à la nappe à carreaux which was estimated at £12-£18m and sold for £34.8M ($56.7M).  Second and third positions were taken by Picasso and Mondrian.  76 works were offered and 65 sold (86%).

 

Also, here is a follow-up to the Miro story … the works were withdrawn — right now, NO SALE!
