California couple finds $10M in gold coins buried in their yard

February 26, 2014

An unsuspecting couple, known only as John and Mary, recently stumbled upon what may be the most incredible buried treasure ever discovered in the United States. Valued at approximately $10 million, the 1,400 piece collection is comprised of mid to late 1800’s gold coins that are in near perfect condition. Further, the find includes the 1866-S No Motto Double Eagle which alone carries an approximate value of $1 million. As Mary says, “It was like finding a wonderful hot potato,” … No idea what that even means but, I guess that makes sense if it was a giant potato made of gold. Kagin’s Inc., a firm specializing in U.S. gold coins, will be representing the couple and handling the sale of the collection.
