Philadelphia Museum Lands a Major Gift, More on the Krugier Collection & Christie’s Loses Another Specialist

January 11, 2014

Philadelphia Museum Lands a Major Gift – here are three interesting art world stories.

The first is about the Sachs collection of contemporary art — a majority of which will be donated to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  Included are works by Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly Brice Marden and Gerhrad Richter … the value has been pegged at $70M.

Next is news that the Krugier family, who offered a large quantity of work at the recent Christie’s New York sale, are now moving to Sotheby’s.  Unhappy with the the Christie’s results they figure Sotheby’s will do better … as we all know, it isn’t only the saleroom; but the quality of the works being offered and their estimates.

Finally, Christie’s is losing Andrea Fiuczynski, the president of their West Coast operations.  Where is she going?  Sotheby’s!
