Merchandise Mart cancels antiques show as Palm Beach Show Group brings antiques fair to Navy Pier

January 2, 2014

Chicago International Antiques and Fine Art Fair will not return this year as Scott Diament, President and CEO of the Palm Beach Show Group announces the Chicago International Art, Antiques and Jewelry Show, the company’s 7th international show.

A new location, the Navy Pier, as opposed to the Merchandise Mart of the former Chicago fair, April 24-28, will draw in buyers from around the Chicago area and opening night will host a champagne preview in honor of the women’s board of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, the former Chicago International Antiques and Fine Art Fair’s philanthropy.

Along with the philanthropy, the Palm Beach Show Group has brought over many dealers as well as Laurette Litiger, head of sales for Merchandise Mart’s antique shows, which ran for 15 years.

The Palm Beach Show Group brings art, antiques and jewelry from around the world to big cities including, New York, Los Angeles, Naples, Palm Beach, Dallas, and Baltimore.

As quoted in the article:

Howard Rehs, co-owner of New York-based Rehs Galleries Inc. and a prominent dealer at the Merchandise Mart show, had made plans to switch to the Navy Pier show before the Mart canceled its fair.

“It was a difficult decision.  I was concerned about another show coming in, but when I saw it was Palm Beach, it’s the best there is.  They do a strong public-relations push,” said Mr. Rehs.
