‘Art thief’ says reality show withholding video that clears him

January 7, 2014

$100,000 worth of artwork was allegedly stolen from a Kings Point estate by Joselito Vega, a hired house painter, in 2012.  Vega was arrested after authorities were notified about video footage caught by a hidden camera during the filming of CBS’s reality show, “Brooklyn DA,” which later aired over a three episode played out drama documentary on the DA Charles Hynes’ office during his re-election.

Vega claims he was approached by Michael Schulhof, the home owner’s son, to sell the works.  One of which was insured for $200,000 and promised to the Guggenheim Museum upon his mother’s death; an insurance scam.

According to Vega’s lawyer, “Up until his arrest, Vega didn’t believe that there was anything wrong or illegal with this arrangement,” his car was searched after the arrest containing proof of his story, yet the evidence in the vehicle as well as CBS footage was never turned over by prosecutors.
