Revised artists resale rights bill coming to Washington in January

December 2, 2013

A revised bill for the Equity for Visual Artists Act will be presented to the Capitol in January.  Some anticipated changes to the bill include, a drop in the amount set aside for artists when their works are resold at auction to 5%, which brings the percentage closer to the 4% in Europe and the UK.  Also profits will go directly to the artist or their heirs instead of shared between artists and museum. Another revision will reduce the price of works from $10,000 to $5,000, to allow less recognized artists to benefit from the bill.
