Thompson Comic Book Collection May Fetch $1M By The Years End.

November 22, 2013

Maggie Thompson is a well-known name in the comic book collectors’ world.  Since the 1940’s she has acquired a collection of tens of thousands of comic books, keeping them in pristine condition.  Now, at 70 years old, Thompson has decided to sell about 500 items of her personal collection at auction over the next several months.

Experts say that her collection may fetch $1M by the end of the sales.  Thompson sold the first 100 issues of “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “Amazing Fantasy” No. 15, the first appearance of Spider-Man, to build an addition to her house to store her massive collection of comic books.

Her first set of comics were sold yesterday (Thursday) in Beverly Hills, Calif., making just under $800K for 86 lots.  Some of the lots included, “The Avengers” No. 1, which went for $89,625, “Journey Into Mystery” No. 83, that sold for $77,675 and “The Incredible Hulk” No. 1, that made $58,256.
