Happy Birthday to the French 19th century artist and physicist, Louis-Jacques Daguerre! Developing the process of exposing a thin silver-plated copper sheet to the vapor given off by iodine crystals would create a light sensitive surface that when exposed to light (for several hours or days) and a few following important steps would reproduce a mirror like image on the surface, more or less, creating the first photograph. The processes was named Daguerreotype.
