Man up: European art and the male nude

October 26, 2013

Man up: European art and the male nude – two shows will explore the European academic tradition of the male nude.  The Male Nude: Eighteenth-century Drawings from the Paris Academy, which opened on October 23 at the Wallace Collection, will feature works by David, Gros, Dumont le Romain, Rigauds, Isabey and others.  Masculine/Masculine: The Nude Man in Art from 1800 to the Present Day, which opened on September 24 at the Musee d’Orsay in Paris, takes the story from the beginning of the 19th century through today.
