Happy Birthday to the 18th century painter, Angelica Kauffman! When Kauffman was younger, her father toured her around Italy exposing her to the fine arts throughout the ancient cities. Her painting talent grew stronger and stronger as the years passed and from 1769 until 1782, Kauffman became an annual exhibitor at the Royal Academy; sending sometimes as much as 7 paintings at once featuring her historical genres. Throughout her career she decorated the walls in St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Hampton Court, the National Portrait Gallery, St. Petersberg and several other famous landmarks. Kauffmans highest paid selling lot at auction was in 2003 for her ‘Portrait of Philip Tisdal with his wife and family,’ making almost $850,000.
