Fake Banksy Artworks Sell Out In New York City

October 23, 2013

A cultural experiment done by three men, Cicirelli, Pilgrim and Gross, shows how fast people tend to jump on the bandwagon.  A couple of weeks ago, we found out that the British born artist, Banksy,  created a pop-up shop on the streets of New York City, selling his famous artworks for only $60 a piece.  A steal if you knew one of his works sold for over $100,000 at auction just a few days ago.  Unfortunately, Banksy only convince three individuals to buy his work.  After finding out the authenticity of the works, New Yorker’s realized they had lost a once in a lifetime opportunity.  So, the three men who conducted the latest experiment decided to do the same; set up a pop-up shop but selling fake Banksy works.  40 exact replicas of what Banksy had on display a week prior, and they sold out every one of them, even with a certificate of “inauthentic.”
