Calder’s Heirs Accuse Trusted Dealer of Fraud

October 30, 2013

A friendship between sculptor Alexander Calder and his gallery representative Klaus G. Perls turned the two men into “family.”  Unfortunately, the tight bond was recently shattered when Calders’ heirs claimed fraud.  According to them, Perls withheld tens of millions of dollars from the sculptor, sold quite a few fakes (even though he had a solid reputation for riding the market of Calder forgeries), and cheated taxes by hiding millions of dollars in a Swiss bank account.
