Banksy Alters Painting Found at a Thrift Shore and Donates to Charity

October 30, 2013

Two months ago, a painting by K. Sager was bought at a NYC thrift shop for $50.  Yesterday, the work was dropped back off at the shop without being noticed by who, with a small yet very important alteration.  British street artist, Banksy, who is finishing up his month long exhibition in Manhattan, has added a seated Nazi soldier to the work, titling the piece “The banality of the banality of evil.”  The Thrift shop on 23rd Street, Housing Works’ mission is “to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.”  Housing Works put the piece up for auction last night and by this morning the bidding reached $211,000, the bidding will end tomorrow, on Banksys final day in Manhattan.
