Highlighting the Hong Kong sales was a 118.28-carat, D flawless, type IIa oval-shaped diamond. It received a great deal of pre-sale publicity as the largest D flawless stone to be sold at auction. Bidding opened at $180M HKD, stalled at $195M … then went very slowly to $200M (bidder was on the phone), almost a minute later it went to $205M and then quickly to $210M. After a long pause $212M (hammer) was bid and it sold (a record price – $238,680,000 with buyer’s premium).
