Louvre plans to evacuate collection from Paris to save it from flooding

September 19, 2013

The Louvre plans to set up a large storage facility in northern France.  The museum currently house 460,000 work of art with only 35,000 of which are on display at a time.  The non-displayed pieces are stored in the basement of the museum on the banks of the River Seine.  The new storage facility would greatly decrease the risk of damage to the works if there is a major flood.
