Looming government shutdown could close Washington’s museums

September 26, 2013

There is one week left for congress to come to an agreement on next year’s budget or museums along the National Mall in Washington, D.C., will be temporarily close. Job insecurities for curators, administrators and conservators at museums like the Hirshhorn, the Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National Gallery of Art are at an all time high.  The Smithsonian states they will loose the majority of their staff, around 6,300 employees, leaving only security guards and essential employees.
