Tokyo man discovers Sothebys auctioned his Renoir stolen in 2000 – since the work was never registered on an international database as being stolen what do you expect? Cannot really fault the auction room. Sad thing is the seller (who seems to have acquired the work in what they thought was a legitimate transaction) is probably going to take the hit.
