As Bernard L. Madoff’s property continues to be liquidated after being found guilty of a $17 billion Ponzi scheme, there is no surprise that a few great works of art are heading to auction this year. Comprised of 61 works, the total art value of his collection is over $575,000. His collection includes art, posters and rugs to be auctioned. Some of the highlights include a 1947 Picasso lithograph of a black bull, “Le Taureau Noir,” printed in an edition of 50, some of which have made over $40,000 at auction, a set of six 1973 Lichtenstein bull lithographs, “Bull Profile Series,” from an edition of 100 priced at $225,000 and a 1952 Matisse crayon drawing of a woman’s head. Other artists that will be up for auction from the Madoff estate are, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Frank Stella, Brice Marden, Cy Twombly and Ellsworth Kelly.
