Christie’s to Auction a Dealer’s Legendary Collection

July 22, 2013

In November, Christie’s will be featuring a special auction in Manhattan where some of the works amassed by the late Jan Krugier will be sold. Krugier was a renowned collector and gallerist, and was a regular in the major salesrooms. The first of the two part auction will be held on November 4th and is expected to bring more than $160 million followed by works on paper and sculptures which has an estimate around $15 million. Among the art in the sale will be “Herbstlandschaft,” a landscape by Kandinsky painted in 1911 which carries an estimate of $20-25 million. In addition, a plethora of Picassos will be up for sale, (which account for 1/10 of works being auctioned) including a 1971 self-portrait (est. $6-8 mil) and “Tete,” a cutout sheet-iron sculpture with a hefty estimate of $25-35 million.
