Tonight’s Post-War & Contemp Sale In London – The Beginning

June 26, 2013

So the competition offered their selection of works tonight and the question on my mind was … would it do better than last night’s?  Things seemed to be moving along through lot 6 works (all selling); but then Grotjahn’s Untitled (lot 7) passed.  Things picked up again with a Currin portrait selling for £1.14M (with the buyer’s premium) and two works by Hockney did well – one at £1.15M and the other at £3.44M.  One the heals of these came the first Bacon work which carried an estimate of £5-£7M and sold for £10.44M — not bad; maybe the Grotjahn was a loner … we shall see … more to follow….
