Lots 54 – The End: More of the same for the remainder of the sale. In this group the top lot was the Chillida at £3.6M (it carried one of those ‘estimate on request’ estimates) and only one of the lots beat their estimate range — Zao Wou-Ki’s Hommage a Chillida at £520K (est. £250-£350K).
The auctioneer tried hard, but at times it was difficult to get the action going — maybe the market has had enough for the season? Or maybe it was just the works being offered? Guess we will have more information after tomorrow night’s sale. In the end, this sale offered 64 works and sold 51 (79.7%) and the total take (with the buyer’s premium) was £70.135M (about $107.7M).
