Artist Kenneth Goldsmith Wants To Print The Entire Internet

June 3, 2013

Let me start off by saying I have a pretty open mind when it comes to art however, this truly bothers me in a much different way than… lets say chewed gum on canvas. “Artist” Kenneth Goldsmith, has rented a 500 square-meter space with 6 meter high ceilings in Mexico City which he plans to fill with “the entirety of the Internet.” Yes, your first thought was right, he wants to print out the Internet. What a waste of paper and money! Not only that, but Goldsmith has asked followers on Tumblr to make contributions by shipping whatever they can to Mexico City, even if it is just one sheet. Thanks Kenny! Ask other people to waste more paper and their money too. Now Goldsmith has said he will recycle all of the used paper but can we think about the amount of ink, ink cartridges and other resources that will be wasted which cannot be recycled, the amount of pollution created in the production of paper and even the pollution produced during the recycling process. Even a Change.org petition (http://www.change.org/petitions/please-don-t-print-the-internet) was created to stop the production of this “art.” To me, this is a slap in the face to our society which should be cleaning up our environment and conserving, not wasting what we have.
